What is the size of tobacco smoke? Tobacco smoke, abbreviated as ETS (environmental tobacco smoke), is formed from the combustion of various products derived from tobacco and chemicals that enrich them. The ETS is composed of ca. 4000 different chemicals and particles of pollutants in solid, liquid and aeriform. 

The ETS has a visible component of millions of smaller particles, visible in the form of smoke. Most ETS particles are smaller bacteria, so you need to use particle filters for highly effective. ETS particles are formed by a complex variety of chemicals, which are nicotine, non-volatile hydrocarbons, phenols, acids and heavy metals. In addition to inorganic gases such as eg. carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, the prussic acid and nitrogen dioxide, the ETS also has a large number of volatile components and semi-volatile, for example benzene, ethane, propylene, toluene, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde , acrylaldehyde and acetone. In order to effectively filter the ETS, an air purifier must be able to remove both particles and substances aerial. 

As for the filtration of ETS, we must pay attention to the following characteristics of an air purifier: 

High efficiency for small particles (the particles present in tobacco smoke are predominantly smaller bacteria. The average diameter is ca. 0.1 micrometers) 

High-capacity filter, or filter with large surface area (ETS particles can fill in the filter very quickly) 

Filter to the gas phase with broad spectrum (activated charcoal alone is unable to filter the number of different chemical components) 

Great filter to the gas phase (the weight of the filter is directly linked to the capacity retention and filtration components aerial) 

Pre-filter for high capacity (increasing the duration and effectiveness of the filter in the gas phase) 

Large-scale flow of air (ambient air should be circulated more than once every hour)
